Honeycomb crash barriers for NCAP compliance
A new range of honeycomb crash barriers has been developed to meet recent frontal and side impact deformable barrier requirements worldwide. The designs are already validated against the Euro NCAP Full Width Deformable Barrier (FWDB) protocol (effective January 2026) and the C-IASI AC-MPDB – a barrier type in operational use for over a year.
The AC-MPDB protocol results from the joint research working group between C-NCAP and Euro NCAP, aiming to harmonize test procedures and reduce duplicate development. Under C-NCAP 2027, the moveable barrier mass has been increased from 1,400kg to 1,550kg. The next Euro NCAP revision is expected to adopt the same protocol with a confirmed 1,550kg barrier mass.
Adjustable crush strength and modular cell geometry enable the barrier to be reconfigured for different vehicle segments – from compact EVs to large SUVs – without sacrificing biofidelity or measurement stability. This flexibility allows test labs and manufacturers to address regional NCAP differences (Europe, China, ASEAN, etc) using a single honeycomb platform. All configurations are supplied with full certification traceability.
