Implicit testing – rethinking embedded software validation with SIL virtualization
24 Jun 2026
Wednesday, June 24, Testing Stage 2 - morning session
Explicit, requirement-by-requirement tests don't scale for complex embedded ECUs. This talk presents implicit testing: system validation via realistic, automatically generated scenarios evaluated against high-level acceptance criteria. Using a Level-3 software-in-the-loop setup in an automotive OEM project, the presentation will show how virtualization shifts testing left, accelerates feedback and reduces maintenance. Modular scenario blocks enable rapid creation of many test cases, ready for AI-assisted generation. A CI-ready toolchain and realistic harness expose bugs early. Attendees will leave with guidance on adopting the framework to cut defects and expand coverage on the road to software-defined vehicles.
- How implicit testing replaces requirement-by-requirement validation with scenario-based system testing to boost coverage and efficiency
- A scalable shift-left SIL implementation in an automotive OEM project, showcasing the benefits of virtual testing
- Modular test case generation designed for AI-assisted testing based on recombining high-level scenario blocks and acceptance criteria
- Rapid bug discovery with a flexible, CI ready toolchain and realistic test harness
- Where implicit testing fits in your embedded software project to cut defects, widen test space and shorten feedback loops
