From high-precision measurements to faster lap times: Vehicle dynamics analysis
25 Jun 2026
Thursday, June 25, Testing Stage 1 - morning session
This presentation introduces an integrated vehicle dynamics measurement system that combines optical velocity and sideslip angle measurement, dynamic camber and wheel position analysis, and wheel force measurement within a unified approach. Using a Formula Student race car as an example, it demonstrates how synchronized acquisition of all relevant parameters enables a holistic characterization of the complete vehicle system. The system allows investigations that would traditionally require dedicated test rigs such as 4/6-post or K&C rigs, but under real driving conditions. The goal is to elevate correlation, system understanding and performance development to a new level.
- How the combination of optical velocity, sideslip angle, dynamic camber, wheel position and wheel forces enables full-vehicle characterization
- How vehicle dynamics parameters typically requiring K&C or 4/6-post test rigs can be captured under real driving conditions
- How synchronized multiparameter measurement significantly improves system understanding between tires, suspension and body structure
- How measurement data can be used effectively for validation, correlation and model calibration
- How a holistic measurement approach directly contributes to performance optimization and competitive advantage
