Michigan Scientific’s 12-Channel Analog to CAN Module helps physical testing keep pace with modern digital design tools by capturing high-resolution data across more sensor channels, more sensor types, and more environments. Designed for both spinning and non‑spinning applications, the MUX delivers clean, digital, time‑aligned output from twelve channels over a single CAN 2.0 or CAN FD bus. Up to 4 modules can be stacked, enabling synchronized sampling of up to 48 channels.

Because the system adapts directly to Michigan Scientific slip rings, engineers can build complete rotating instrumentation packages — including synchronized encoder capability — without sacrificing signal quality.

A Compact Multiplexing Amplifier Built for High-Channel Count Applications

The 12-Channel Analog to CAN Module consolidates multiple sensor inputs into a single high-speed digital output, streamlining data acquisition for complex test environments such as rotating machinery and automotive components.

Key characteristics include:
  • 12-channel sensor input with single digital output
  • Output data up to 8 ksps (CAN FD) / 2 ksps (CAN2.0)
  • Stack up to 4 modules for 48 synchronized channels
  • Compact design for non-spinning and spinning applications
  • Measure strain, temperature, acceleration, and position
  • Use with strain gauges, thermocouples, RTDs, accelerometers, string pots, and hall-effect sensors
  • Use with absolute quadrature encoders to output position and speed
  • Software-configure each channel independently
  • Sensor excitation for ratiometric sensors
  • Integrated shunt calibration resistors
  • Galvanic isolation

Why Engineers Choose Michigan Scientific's Analog to CAN Module

Flexible Multi-Sensor Input in a Single Assembly

By stacking different MUX models within one mechanically unified assembly, the platform supports mixed‑sensor configurations—strain, temperature, displacement, acceleration, RTD, and encoder inputs—all consolidated onto a single CAN output.

  • Reduces space requirements
  • Simplifies wiring
  • Consolidates all outputs onto one CAN 2.0 or CAN FD bus

Optimized for Spinning/Rotating Applications

The module enables a complete rotating measurement system with synchronized speed, position, strain, temperature, or displacement—digitized and aligned before the slip ring.

  • Seamless integration with Michigan Scientific slip rings
  • Supports encoder integration
  • Full instrumentation directly on shaft or hub
  • Digitization on the rotating assembly ensures maximum signal quality

High-Channel Density in a Compact Package

With 12 channels per module and a stackable architecture, engineers can efficiently package large sensor sets into a single, space‑efficient assembly.

  • 12 channels per module
  • Stackable architecture supporting 48 synchronized channels
  • Only 2 power + 2 CAN connections needed for 48 channels
  • Dimensions: 99 mm (3.875 in) OD and 25.4 mm (1.00 in) height
