Chroma´s Upgraded USB Type-C Testing Solution: All-in-One Power, Data, and Video Signal Tesitng
The standardization of charging and data interface has become a defining factor in modern electronics design. USB Type-C with USB Power Delivery (USB PD) has rapidly evolved into a universal interface capable of handling charging, high-speed data transfer, and video output through a single cable. With the release of USB PD 3.2, device validation has becme increasingly complex. Engineers must verify not only power delivery performance, but also data transmission rates, DisplayPort Alt Mode functionality, power role switching (Source/Sink/DRP), and critical safety mechanisms such as Over-Current Protection (OCP). To address these challenges, Chroma introduces a highly integrated, all-in-USB Type-C testing solution designed to simplify workflows while ensuring full compliance and performance validation.
Chroma A223810 + A223808 - Integrated USB Type-C Testing Solution
The combination of the A223810 USB-C Signal Module and the A223808 Power Module fully supports the USB PD 3.2 specification with power capability up to 140 W (28 V/ 5 A).
Key Features
- Programmable voltage range: 3-28 V (1 mV step resolution)
- Support for SPR (Standard Power Range) and EPR (Extended Power Range)
- AVS (100 mV steps) and PPS (20 mV steps)
- USB 3.2 Gen2 data verification
- DisplayPort Alt Mode video validation
- Automatic cable orientation detection (Cable Flip)
- Power role validation (Source / Sink / DRP)
The solution provides both DC power output and load simulation capabilities, enabling comprehensive validation of:
- Video signal transmission
- VBUS voltage and current parameters
- USB data rate and protocol version
- Automatic power role switching
An integrated USB-C test program automates complex text sequences and delivers immediate Pass/Fail results, significantly improving testing efficiency.
OCP Simulation for Safety Verification
Over-Current Protection (OCP) is a critical safety requirement in USB-C applications. When paired with the A223808 Power Module, the A223810 allows accurate simulation of over-current conditions on the sink side (adjustable from 5 A to 10 A) to verify proper protection triggering on the source side.
Streamlined User Interface
The newly designed single-page UI allows users to:
- Monitor module status in real time
- Configure test functions intuitively
- View graphical DUT representations
- Access shortcuts and monitor test results simultaneously
This optimized layout reduces setup complexity and significantly shortens overall testing time.
